Date for new council election likely
to be changed to Dec. 9


The Johnston County Board of Elections is gearing up for a redo of last year's botched Town Council election, but it has its sights set on a new date – Dec. 9.

County Attorney Mark Payne told the board Thursday afternoon at its monthly meeting that when a final order for a new election is issued next week by the State Board of Elections, it won't be for Nov. 4, the date the state board selected two weeks ago for the new council election. [more]

Charlotte Mayor and Republican gubernatorial candidate Pat McCrory met with about two dozen leaders from area municipalities Thursday morning at The Clayton Center. He decried the "arrogance" of the state government and vowed to establish better relationships with local officials if he becomes governor. State approves inpatient beds
for Clayton medical center


The Certificate of Need Section of the state’s Division of Health Service Regulation announced Friday that it had approved the reallocation of 27 inpatient beds to Johnston Health’s new Clayton medical center. [more]

A local mother is grateful this week for a quick response by Clayton police Saturday that ended with an arrest of a suspect that drove off with the mother’s car – and two infants in the back seat.
